MEETING OF W.D.F.F. The monthly meeting of the Turak.na branch of the W.D.F.F. was held on September 26, the president, Mrs. Harris, presiding over a fair attendance. It was decided to combine with Bonny Glen and Makirikiri branches to hold a flower show in March ot next year. Each member was asked to make an apron for the needlework stall in connection with the forthcoming flower show. Members were also asked to make soft toys for the children of Greece. A presentation of a bowl filled with beautiful flowers was made by the president to Mrs. A. Perry, with the division’s warmest wishes for her future happiness. The guest speaker, Mrs. F. Spurdle, gave a very interesting talk on some of the exhibits at the Wanganui Museum. This was much appreciated by all present. A competition for the best bloom in the garden was won by Mrs. Major and Mrs. Grice, 1 equal. The next meeting will be held on the last Thursday in October, when members from the Bonny Glen and Makirikiri branches will be present to assist with the drawing up of the schedule for the flower show. The competition is for the best bloom in the garden. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The Turakina Hall presented a gay scene with its decorations of massed flowers on October 17, the occasion being the 15th birthday of the Turakina Women’s Institute. In the absence of the president, Mrs. C. Perry, owing to illness, Mrs. A. J. Perry presided. There was a large attendance of visitors and representatives from Bulls, Marton Junction, Mosston, Kaitoke, Fordell, and Aramoho W.l.’s. Mrs. Tremain accompanied for the singing of the institute song. During the afternoon items were given by Mesdames Symans, Yeatman, F. Johnston junr., Wilkie, and mem cel's of the Fordell W... all being very much enjoyed. The trading stall did brisk business the home-made cooking proving very popular. An unusual and very interesting exhibition was the antiques arranged in a corner of the hail. The cake, made and iced in institute colours, gold and green, was the work of Mrs. A. J. Perry. The candles were lit by past presidents Mesdames Major, W. Knox, and Wishnosky. also one member from each of the visiting institutes. They were blown out by the oldest member. Mrs. King. Mrs Shanks, who has always done much to help the institute, kindly consented to cut the cake. Mrs. Wishnosky presented all who had helped to make the day such a success, with a shoulder spray in appreciation of their services. A delectable afternoon tea was dispensed by the committee, and the singing of the National Anthem brought a most enjoyable afternoon to a close.
