WANGAEHU BRANCH W.D.F.U.

There were 23 members and several visitors at the October meeting of the Wangaehu branch of the W.D.F.U., over which Mrs. Frederick presided. Five new members were elected and welcomed to the branch by the president.

Letters of thanks for flowers sent in their illnesses were received from Mesdames Beard, and Honeyman,, and an acknowledgement of a donation was received from Makogai Leper Mission. The secretary was asked to write a note of sympathy to Mrs. Peffers in her illness. Reports were received from the delegates to the Town and Country Residential Nursery Association, and the Parent-Teachers' Association.

It was reported that the 30 names requested had been received from the West Ham Central Mission, and one of these names was given to each member with the request that she write a letter to be sent with the parcels of food, which will be packed at the November meeting. The roll call next month will be soap to be included in the parcels. A splendid response was received to the roll call of a tin of honey or gingernuts for the “Food for Britain” drive. The “best bloom” competition was won by Mrs. Frederick, with Mrs. Hawken 2.

After the business meeting was concluded, members joined the Federated Farmers in a social hour. The programme opened with the singing of the division song, then the Drama Circle again presented their two plays. Miss Beard delighted with a song, and received an enthusiastic recall. Finally a “Mock Court" was held, presided over by Mrs. G. P. Anderson as judge and Mrs. C. B. Bartrum as prosecutor. Much amusement was caused as the various charges were read out, and the fines and donation swelled the emergency fund by £4 ss. A tasty supper served by the ladies concluded a very successful and happy evening.
