BIG YARDING STOKE CATTLE AT STORTFORD LODGE

(P.A.) Hastings, Oct. 30 One of the largest yardings of store cattle ever to come forward at the weekly sale at Stortford Lodge was offered to-day, when 2500 head were penned. The yarding was far in excess of requirements, passings being numerous, while odd sales effected changed hands at values fully £1 below the ruling rates. A good proportion of the entry consisted of second quality cattle, with the bulk of them younger cattle. Top quality lines were in demand mainly within restricted limits. Three-year steers sold at £9 Ils, empty cows brought £7 15s, two-year heifers £6 17s 6d, and yearling heifers £3 18s.

Beef values were a shade easier, though quality beasts continued to sell at a margin above the schedule. There was a steady, though not animated, demand. Prime ox brought £l9 13s 6d to £2O 18s 6d; medium, £l7 3s 6d to £lB 3s 6d; heavy cows, £l4 3s 6d; prime, £lO 3s 6d to £l2 13s 6d, forward, £l3 Is to £l4 Is, and medium at £lO 10s to £ll 13s 6d. Late in selling, an attractive draft of 122 A.A. bullocks from Raukawa sold from £2O 8s 6d to £22 18s 6d, averaging £22. While occasional pens ot store sheep sold at parity, values generally were 6d to Is a head below the ruling rates. In a yarding of 9000 shorn 2-tooth and 4-tooth wethers predominated. Shorn 2-tooth wethers sold at from 24s to 25s 8d; shorn 4-tooth wethers, 29s 3d, woolly 4-tooth wethers, 31s 5d to 35s 3d; shorn 2-tooth ewes, 24s lOd to 25s lOd; woolly ewe hoggets, 29s 2d to 35s 8d; woolly wether hoggets, 28s lOd to 335.

Fat sheep were about Is a head cheaper than at recent sales. Heavy shorn wethers sold at from 32s Id to 34s lOd; medium, 28s 4d; shorn Down 2-tooths, 26s 7d; heavy maiden ewes, 37s 4d to 39s lOd; average woolly ewes 23s lOd to 25s 7d; heavy woolly hoggets, to 36s lOd; lighter, down to 29s lOd.
