WELLINGTON CABLE CAR SERVICE SOLD

COUNCIL TAXING OVER (P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 3. The Wellington cable cAr service, which has been operated by a company since its inception 46 years ago, is soon to become part of the transport. service administered by the Wellington City Council. At a meeting of shareholders of the Kelburn and Karori Tramway Company, Ltd. it, was decided to accept the council’s offer to purchase.

The sale is to extend to a subsidiary company, the Kelburn-Karori ,Motor Bus Company, though this is to be treated as a separate proposition. However, it is believed that the council has indicated that both undertakings should be part of the deal, as they are inter-related in the carriage of passengers. The capital of the Kelburn-Karori Tramway Company is £30,000. Its fixed assets are shown in the balance sheet at the beginning of this year at £56.000. There are about 100 shareholders.
