WANGANUI 17TH ANNUAL PEDIGRAE BULL FAIR
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SALE
The auctioneers, Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., report a record catalogue of pedigree bulls yarded to an excellent attendance of buyers and a very successful sale resulted at prices which compare more than favourably with other centres. Of the total of 75 catalogued, only 13 were passed, which, for the most part, lacked condition and in several instances were decidedly low conditioned.
We know lull well how hard it is for breeders to bring their bulls forward in good saleable condition, with the adverse spring against them. Generally speaking, most entries, although they could have been better, were in quite fair order. The old saying that butterfat backing is of little use unless the beast is in real good serviceable condition is amply shown every season. No outstanding prices were realised but values, according to butterfat backing and condition, were consistent right throughout the sale. Grade bulls sold well, except a few which were in poor condition. Of 44 yarded, 38 were sold at very satisfactory figures. Quotations: — Two-year pedigree Jersey bulls, account R. H. Oldfield, 30gns.; account Lord Bros., 8 and 15gns.; account A. L. Thorburn, 18gns.; account A. G. W. Muir, 44gns.; account C. Coleman, 32 gns.; account F. W.
