“BATTLE” IN MAIN STREET

Recd. 11 p.m. Sydney, May 21. A battle of wits between the police and students of Sydney University . ended in favour of the students to-day. Advised some weeks ago that a capping procession would not be allowed to proceed through Sydney’s main streets, the students avoided a cordon of police by means of a smoke screen laid down by the science men. Emerging from the screen, which immobilised traffic, trucks reached Martin Place and engaged the constables with bags of - flour. The invaders later withdrew i in good order.
