RAW MILK IN DEMAND
PRODUCTION OF DAIRY * HERDS DECLINING The demand for raw milk in Wanganui at present exceeds the suppjy available, but it was stated yesteraav that everything possible is being done to meet the wishes of consumers. Because of the unfavourable season, with hot, dry days and much wind, the of dairy herds in the district is below normal. Unlike some centres, however, such as Auckland, no actual shortage of milk for the town supply has developed, but raw milk is in such demand that it is impossible to meet all the requests. One night recently there was a shortage of, 30 gallons of raw milk in Wanganui, but it was emphasised yesterday that every drop of raw milk available was going out to consumers, with preference to those whose milk is delivered by vendors. The falling off in production is due not only to the unfavourable season, bu-. also to the fact that the peak period for summer herds has passed. In the early part of April cows which will be milked for the winter supply, will be coming into production.
