DISTINGUISHED SERVICE CROSS AWARDED

WANGANUI FLEET AIR ARM OFFICER. Advice has been received that SubLieutenant (A) Donald McLisky, son of Mrs. C. L. Richards, Toi Street, Wanganui, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross lor service in Pacific Fighter sweeps in July and August, 1945. He was educated at the Wanganui Marist Bros. School and enlisted in the Fleet Air Arm about four years ago. He went from New Zealand to England, then to Canada, then to the United States, to Pensecola. Eventually he was posted to the aircraft carrier Formidable, in the Royal Navy. He participated in attacks on the German battleship Tirpitz in Norway. His ship then joined the Pacific Fleet under Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser. He was well known in tennik and music circles in Wanganui. He and Mr. Jack Kidd represented Wanganui in the junior tennis doubles. He was also a member of the Wanganui Male Choir.
