VERY FEW WITHDRAWALS

NATIONAL SAVINGS ACCOUNTS. Depositors in aNtional Savings accounts up to June 30, 1943, had the right, as from July 1, 1945, to withdraw their saxings if they wished, or to transfer them to Post Office Savings Bank accounts, whexe the money would be on call, but in the Wanganui postal distiic? only a small proportion of withdrawals have taken place. Ol 8000 accounts opened at the Chief Post Office. Wanganui, up to June 30, 1943, only 270 applications were received with the first fortnight after June 30, 1945. In addition there were only 41 applications for transfer to Post Office Savings B<mk accounts, making a total of 313 such transactions.

The same confidence in National Savings was demonstrated throughout the postal district, the proportion of withdrawals being even lower than at the Chief Post Office. Investors in Wanganui and district apparently appreciate that, with the war in the Far East yet to be won the present is not ar. opportune time to withdraw savings. Last week there was a considerable drop in National Savings receipts, stated the district organiser, Mr. B. E. Williams, who added that the amount was the smallest for a considerable period. The preceding three weeks, however, were abnormal in receipts, h.? said, and the regular savers helped to maintain a good figure which resulted in the district and the city being respec.tively only £B7O and £l6O short of I heir weekly Quotas. A 0 town® in th' district showed a simi'ar deficiency, but surpluses from previous weeks enabled the district, city and the sub-ofiices to be credited with quota successes
