oeen appointed to tne school nupecvorate ni tne j.aianaKi Education Board’s district to succeed Mr. Duncan Mackay, now principal of the Christchurch Teachers’ Training College. Sub-Inspector J. Mclntyre, formerly senior-sergeant of police at Palmerston Nortn, has arrived in Wellington to take up his new duties at that centre. He succeeds Sub-Inspector Lambert, who has been appointed inspector at Greymouth, ana left tor the south on Monaay. Mr. O. E. Johnston, head teacher, To Karaka District High School, has been appointed inspector of schools tor the Taranaki Education Board. He is a former member of the staff of the intermediate School, Wanganui, and the second such to be appointed an inspector. The other is Mr. J. B. Bennett, who is serving with the Canterbury Education Board.
Lieutenant-Colonel Albert Scotncy, a retired officer ol the Salvation Army, died at his home at Hataitai, Wellington on Thursday morning. He was a member of a family whicn came from Yorkshire to New Zealand in 1893, and settled at Dannevirke, wncre they all linked up with the Salvation Army, and he became an officer in 1898. He retired from active service in the early part ot 1940, but the demands of the increasing war services of the Salvation Army prompted him to volunteer for work again, and lor over two years he was manager of the Salvation Army Red Shield Institute at the Wellington railway station, catering for the needs of thousands oi servicemen. He was compelled by ill health to relinquish his duties there a lew months ago. He is survived by Mrs. Scotney, a son, and a daughter.
