MARTON PATRIOTIC APPEALS

(.0.C.) Marton, Nov. 18, Marton had exceeded its quota required for patriotic funds by £162, reported the chairman, Mr. E. Purnell, at the annual meeting last night oi the Zone M Patriotic Committee. Reviewing activities for the year enued September 30 last, Mr. Purnell saia the quota set for the district was £4lOB. Due mainly to the splendid work of the various women’s committees responsible for organising patriotic snops, £4044 18s was paid to the Wellington Provincial Patrioic Council. Additional receipts from other sources credited to Zone M brought the final total to £4269 16s sd. or £l6l 16s 5d in excess of the quota.” Four patriotic shops returned £2599 0s 9d (excluding official railes), details being:—Cliff Road-Porewa (per Mrs. R. Simpson/, £298 3s 9d; Bonny Glen-Fern Flats (per Mrs. W. Simpson), £565 6s 8d; Crofton-Makirikiri South (per Mrs. Ladley), £637 Is 3d; Tutaenui (per Mrs. Duckworth), 1109 a 9s Id; total, £2599 0s 9d. Official raffles returned £248 11s, while sundry donations, apart from the shops, amounted to £ll2l 7s 3d. Credits received from other sources [were: Reclamation of waste materials, £l5 12s 4d; Order of St. John and Red Cross, £11; proportion of receipts from other zones, as scheduled, £l9B 6s Id; total, £224 18s sd. The receipts of the combined shop held to raise funds for the Mayor s Soldiers’ Entertainment and Presentation and Comforts Fund, the St. John Ambulance, Red Cross Society and Navy League, amounted to £1044 10s 4d, a magnificent tribute to the women’s committees and all who worked in the interests of servicewomen and women.

After allocations of £l5O to each oi the Red Cross Society, and the St. John Ambulance, and £lOO to the Rangitikei branch of the Navy League, there was a nett balance of £632 18s 4d for transfer to the Mayor's Comforts Fund.
