E.P.S. FIRST-AID POSTS

SUGGESTION FOR USE IN POSSIBLE EPIDEMIC A suggestion that medical stores in first-aid posts, established as part oi E.P.S, schemes, be retained for use in a possible epidemic is made by the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, in a circular which will be placed before the Wanganui Hospital Board at its monthly meeting to-day. “It has been suggested that the wartime abnormal traffic between the Dominion and other countries may present a greater health hazard, although medical inspection and quarantine provisions were calculated to minimise the probability of epidemic and that the retention of first-aid post supplies and equipment is desirable,” states the circular.

“While this department is unable to judge whether or not the suggestion has merit, it does realise that the encouragement of the maintenance of medical units to cope with a possible epidemic more or less calls for provision of first-aid material. In view of this iirst-aid post supplies and equipment may be retained until further notice, but, as previously notified, arrangements should be made with the local, hospital for periodical exchange of drugs liable to deterioration through long storage. “It will be generally agreed that first-aid posts should be maintained to deal with any emergency that might arise, wheher from epidemic, earthquake, or other cause.”
