AUSTRALIAN TROOPS

WILL HELP TO RECOVER

PHILIPPINES Recd. 7 p.m. New York, Oct. 2. “Australia is prepared to provide its share of troops for a campaign to recover the Philippines if the United 1 Nations High Command deems it advisable,” Mr. J. Curtin declared in an interview with .the Canberra correspondent of the New York Times. This is the first public assurance •that Australia is prepared to send masses of men beyond her own immediate defence zone since the Australian divisions were withdrawn from the Middle East.

The correspondent says that, since the Militia were prevented from fighting beyond the immediate Australian area, Mr. Curtin was apparently referring to the participation of A.I.F. volunteers and other special volunteer units.
