FARMERS’ INTERESTS PROTECTED

VIEWS OF MR. A. R. LAIRD. Appreciation of the services given by the Dominion Executive and the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in protecting the interests of farmers whenever necessary, was expressed by Mr. A. R. Laird, at the annual meeting of the Westmere branch of the union on Saturday night. He said their watchfulness had repaid over avti over again the small membership fee of 30s they were called on' to pay. Mr. Laird said no farmer should remain outside the union. All shotild assist Mr. Donaldson to increase the membership to 750, which was the figure aimed at. Mr. R. Farley endorsed Mr. Laird’s remarks and suggested that a list o, farmers who are not already members should be prepared and handed to the provincial secretary. Thanking the speakers, Mr. Donaldson said it was possible that many farmers had never been requested to join the union and it was for this reason that he would welcome a list of names as suggested by Mr. Farley.
