RESIDENT’S DEATH

MR. GEORGE WARDEN PROMINENT LODGE MEMBER A resident of Wanganui for more than 35 years, the death occurred recently of Mr. George William Warden, aged 69 years. Born in Scotland, Mr. Warden came to New Zealand with his parents when an infant. Shortly after his arrival in Wanganui, Mr. Warden joined the City Council staff and had 31 years’ service to his credit. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, Pyramid Lodge of. the Independent Order of Oddfellows, and was one of the few holders of the veteran’s jewel for 25 years’ service.

The Rev. J. F. Martin officiated at the service at the residence and also at the graveside. Pall-bearers were Messrs. G. Warden (son), G. Hainsworth (son-in-law), E. Waugh (Pyramid Lodge, 1.0.0. F.), Totty and Nelson (.Wanganui City Council staff), and Burton (Freemasons). The Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., and the town clerk, Mr. C. R. White, represented the Wanganui City Coun-

The Independent Order of Oddfellows conducted a burial service, the order being well represented, and Bro. G. Allardyce, P.D.D.G.M., performed the ceremony. The late Mr. Warden is survived by his wife, a son, Mr. G. Warden (Wellington*, and a daughter, Mrs. G. Hainsworth (Fordell).
