Mr. L. H. Warne, chief assistant to the Trade Commissioner for Australia, and Mr. O. Conibear, of the Ministry of Supply, have returned from Australia, where they have been engaged in, negotiations with the Commonwealth Government. Mr. C. Willis, a member of the Wanganui East Bowling Club, who is leaving for Eltham, was farewelled on Saturday by club members. For the club, the president, Mr. A. W. Jones, referred to Mr. Willis' popularity as a club member and wished him every success for the future. Mr. Donald Ross, who died last year, was referred to at the annual meeting of the Westmere branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on Saturday night. The chairman, Mr. A. R. Laird, said Mr. Ross had been a member for a long period of years and had identified himself with every progressive movement in the district. Mr. Ross had also given unsparingly of his time to local body work. As a mark of respect the gathering stood in silence for a brief period.
