LOWEST THIS YEAR

DISTRICT WAR SAVINGS TOTAL APPEAL FOR ALL-IN EFFORT. “Last week's War Savings effort was the lowest recorded since the beginning of the year a nd in marked contrast to the excellent figures over the past four weeks” said the district organiser, Mr. J. Gillick, in an interview last night. The district quota of £3OOO was undersubscribed by £2OO, while only seven ollices in the district succeeded in reaching their objectives. With the assistance of £B5O in surpluses carried forward the district total was £2BOB, compared with £4BBO the previous week. Active cash receipts showed a substantial decline of £1972, compared with £3926 invested the week before. In the Wanganui and suburban area the landslide in contributions was equally pronounced, the gross total being omy £lB4O, compared witli £3861 tor the previous week. In the city area the quota of £1450 was exceeded by £2lO alter utilising the maximum carry-over of £7OO. Receipts in the city were £1660 a marked contrast to the £3606 invested the week before. The successful ollices last week were: Wanganui, 72 successive weeks; Hunterville, 75 successive week'; Marton, 73 successive weeks; Aramoho, 73 successive weeks; Taihape, 55 weeks; Waverley, 46 weeks; an 1 Mangaweka, 40 weeks. Committee’s Appeal. The Wanganui War Savings Committee appeals to citizens lor their individual support to ensure the district's co-operation in the Dominionwide appeal now being made to stimulate renewed activity in the War Savings campaign in order to bridge the gap of approximately £1,500,000 required to fill the Budget estimate in war savings for the current financial year. A review of the number of investments made to individual National War Savings accounts discloses a substantial falling off since the Spring Offensive campaign in October last. Provided every war saver will revive his dormant passbook and respond to the present appeal to save regularly, the cumulative result will be ot material assistance to the war effort and an advantage to the individual in the immediate post-war period.
