WANGANUI FLIES FLAG FOR 72ND. SUCCESSIVE WEEK
Wanganui city continued its unbroken record in War Savings when the “quota" flag was hoisted on the old post office for the 72nd. successive week at mid-day yesterday. This week’s objective was achieved mainly through the assistance of the maximum carry-over of £7OO from last week when the quota was more than doubled. “A particularly disappointing feature in this week's activities has been the poor sales of 3 per cent. War Bonds, the figures for which are the lowest recorded since the commencement of the campaign,” said the district organiser, Mr. J. Gillick, last night. “The outstanding results of the past few weeks have been largely due to the contribution of citizens in these gilt-edged transferable securities. In view of the alteration in the quota system, which will operate from the end of the present, month, when full surpluses will be carried forward from week to week, a substantial increase in these investments will become a feature of the campaign," said Mr. Gillick.
