REHABILITATION SCHEMES
PATEA COUNTY PROPOSALS (0.C.) Patea, March 11. Proposals submitted by the Patea County Council for the employment oi returned men on a programme of afforestation of deteriorated lands would be embodied in a Dominionwide scheme, the Rehabilitation Board advised the council at its monthly meeting. A request was received from the Patea Borough Council to appoint representatives on a Patea rehabilitation committee. It was decided to make inquiries from the Rehabilitation Board as to the correct procedure to be followed *in the constitution of local committees. On receipt of this information the council will act.
Several slips and washouts occurred in back-country roads in the Waverley Riding as a result of heavy rain, reported the overseer, Mr. W. F. Johnston. These would be repaired temporarily until next summer, when final repairs would be made. Heavy rain fell in the Kapara Riding during the month, he continued, and the highway was under water in numerous places. Silt was left on the road, in som« localities to a depth oi 18 inches, but this was quickly removed by the angledozer. Tne Moeawatea Valley Road was again blocked.
