SOUTH PACIFIC AREA VISITED

(P.A.) Wellington, March 1. It was announced by the Prime Minister to-night that the Hon. G. J. Coates, Minister of Defence Co-ordi-nation. accompanied by Mr. C. A. Berendsen, permanent head of the Prime Minister’s Department, Brigadier Stewart. deputy-Chlef of the General Staff, and Colonel Salmon, have returned to New Zealand after consulting American authorities in the South Pacific area. Opportunity was also taken to visit New Zealand troops stationed in the Pacific.
