HITHER AND THITHER.
League of Mothers. Memoers and tnends of the League of Mothers are reminoed that the first meeting lor 1943 will be held on Tuesday next, February 23 in the Victoria Hall. The speaker for the afternoon will be Private Mary Croom, who recently returned from che Middle East. Notable Swimmer. An outstanding ligure in New Zealand swimming in recent years, Miss Joyce Macdonald, of Invercargill, who was in 1938, the youngest member m tile New Zealand team at the Empire Games in Sydney, recently won one Ireestyle and two backstroke events at the South Island championships. Previously she nad won elgnt New Zealand championships and 2U Southland championships. W.D.F.U., Hunterville Branch. The monthly meeting of the W.D.F.U. was held in the Presoyterian Sunday School room, Mrs. Harre presiding. Apologies were received from Mesaames L. Hammond, L. Lambert, Scott Maundrell, and R. Dalziell. Members stood in silence in sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs. Lon Weston. Mr. Vlv. Wilson played for and led a community sing, which was very much enjoyed by all. Nurse Little, ot Marton, gave a most interesting talk on emergency obstetrics, and was accorded a nearly vote or thanks. Mesaames Pitcaithly ana Grant Simpson were hostesses. A competition was won by Mrs. A. McAlley 1, Mrs. Henwood 2, Mrs. Harre 3. Next meeting is second 'Thursday in March. 'There will be a provincial meeting next Friday in Feiiding, also display of handwork. All members are welcome, and asked to enter any sort ot work, tor which there will be Ist. 2nd., and 3rd. prizes.
