STANDARD SHIPS

CONSTRUCTION PROCEEDS IN AUSTRALIA (Recd. 8 p.m.) Sydney, Jan. 3. “Our shipping losses are great and we must keep the ships sliding down the slipways, ’ declared the Minister of Shipping and Supply, Mr. J. L. Beasley, at the launching of a 9000ton vessel for the Australian Merchant Navy. The new ship is one of 60 to be built to a standard design especially adapted to suit Australian conditions. She was entirely Australian made except for the navigation instruments and certain engine parts. The feature of the accommodation is that seamen will have two-berth cabins.
