ZHUKOV IN COMMAND

(Recd. 7 p.m.) London, Jan. 2. It has been officially revealed in Moscow that General Zhukov is directing the offensive in southern Kuzsia—not Marshal Timoshenko, who w'as generally believed to be in charge of operations. The field commanders are Colonel-General Vatoutin, on the south-western front, Colonel-General Eremenko on the Stalingrad front, Lieut.General Rakatovsky on the Don front, and Lieut-General Golikov on the Voronej front. Timoshenko is not named, leaving it to be inferred that he has been replaced by Zhukov or nromoted to an undisclosed office.
