RIOT IN PRETORIA
TROUBLE OVER WAGES Johannesburg, Dec. 30. Fourteen natives and one European soldier were klled in a riot in Pretoria which got beyond the control of the police, many of whom were injured. The riot was quelled only after armoured cars had appeared on the scene. The trouble developed from a meeting organised to demand the immediate payment of increases in wages under a recent award. The natives had previously been advised that arrangements were being made for the payment of higher wages to be retrospective to the end of November,
