APPEALS FOR KEY MEN
REQUEST TO CITY COUNCIL A recent, decision of the Wanganui City Council to appeal for key men called up for military service was the subject of a letter from the Wanganui Municipal Labourers' Union received at a special meeting of the council last night. The union held that preferential treatment would cause dissatisfaction among the staff concerned, and to avoid this it was suggested chat the council should either appeal for all men called up. or for none. In moving that the letter be received and referred to the Works Committee, the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, said the matter called for some consideration. He did not know whether the council could come to the far-reaching decision as suggested by the union. ‘‘lt has been necessary to appeal for some men,” the Mayor added, “but. the council has done little appealing.” The Mayor's motion was carried.
