PICNIC AT NEW PLYMOUTH
BATEA FREEZING WORKS STAFF. (0.C.) Patea. March 12. One of th? largest excursion train.’ seen in New Plymouth for many years arrived there recently' with 70G passengers from Patea. The occasion was the annual picnic of Patea Freezing Works employees, who combiner this vear with several schools and engage'.'! a special train. The number«o, people carried on the excursion represented about three-fifth.s of Patea’F population. Some of the passengers left the train at New Plymouth station, but the majority continued to Ngamotu Beach. The children were catered for with a programme of races and picnic treats and adults competed in the annual athletic events held in conjunction with the picnic. Members oJ the Patea Municipal Band player selections, and several Maori visitor.' with ukeleles and guitars added to the entertainment. The train left Neu Plymouth for Paton, at 5 ’’.m.
