WANGANUI GIRLS’ COLLEGE

PRIZE D STFiBUTING CERZMONY DIRECTOR OF F.DI ( ATION PRESENT The assembly hall of the Wangaj nui Girls’ College was crowded on Friday night for the annual prize-giv- , ing ceremony. The guests o< honour were Dr. C. I E. Beeby, Director of Education. Mrs. I Beeby, and members of the College . Board of Governors. Mr. G. S. Gordon, chairman of the board, presided. He welcomed Dr. Beeby. and said that the year had been an eventful one. Much scnolar- • istic work had been accomplished and • progress had been well maintained. i “I did not come neie to-night to ; .speak to teachers, parents and rela- ' lives, but to talk to the children themselves.” said Dr. Beeby. SpeakI ing specially to those leaving school. . he took as his subject "Growing up." ; in which he outlined the process from : childhood to coming of age. “In the ’ modern world you do not entirely ; grow up.” he said. ‘‘The world alters so rapidly to-day. and the result is : you cannot grow up with it. Do not . try to speed up growing up. Life is a ■ very long time, and unless you can take life gently and slowly you miss all the fun. Your job of growing up . is to strike a balance. Schools arc here to give you an insight on how to grow, to give you things you can believe in and to give you a pattern on how to proceed. The great, secrets of life are those which the school has prepared for you.” He was sure the Wanganui Girls’ College had prepared pupils for the kind of life that they will live in years to come. Following the address by Dr. Beeby. Miss M. E. Baker. M.A.. principal of the college, read her annual report.
