RAILWAY DELAYS
ROTOKUA-Al CKLAND EXPRESS (Press Assn.) Auckland, Dec. 11. j Successive mishaps to two engines i held up the running of the Rotorua- j to-Auckland express this alternoon. and it arrived at Auckland fully three hours behind time. The departure o; ' the Limited express for Wellington . was delayed for 10 minutes to enable [ passengers on an obstructed suburban i train to connect with it. The Rotorua-express was brought to a halt south of Mercer when the driving rods of the engine broke. A delay of about an hour and twenty minutes resulted before the relief engine was connected. The tiain was again stopped just south of Otahuhu. when the second engine developed mechanical trouble. The disabled train was brought to Otahuhu station by [ a lo<al engine and the coaches were attached to the Taneatua express and finally reached Auckland at 7.9 p.m. It was scheduled to arrive at 4 p.m. The limited was held hack when it was learned that six south-hound passengers were on a southern suburban train, which did not arrive at Auckland until 7.23 p.m.
