TERRITORIAL LEAGUE
SUSPENSION OF CLUB-ROOM ACTIVITIES TRAINEES MAKE PRESENTATION A farewell gathing was held in the Wanganui Territorial League clubroom on Saturday, when a largelyatterf.ed lea-dance marked the suspension of activities following the closing of the military comp at the Wanganui Racecourse. Lieut.-Colonel J. L. McAlister, M.C., camp commandant, extended thanks to the committee and helpers for all that had been done for the thousands of men who had made use of the rooms when on leave. He also made a presentation to the committee to mark the appreciation of the camp personnel. Lieut.-Colonel McAlister was accompanied by Captain A. McL. Gondie, camp padre. Replying on behalf of the committee. Miss Ainslee Bell, president oi the Wanganui Territorial League, said that the club had been in existence only three months, but it was felt that their efforts had been well worth while. Miss Bell paid a tribute to members of the committee and the many helpers who, though in the background, had done much toward enabling the committee to carry out their labour of love. She said that the committee would hold itself in readiness to renew activities should occasion demand it. During the time that the rooms had been open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, hundreds of men had made use of the amenities available. A concert was held in the room on Sunday evening. Songs were sung byMiss M. Thompson, Miss L. Fennell, and Private Jenkins, and Sergeant C. Watson played piano selections. Miss A. Gleeson accompanied community singing and Miss R. Fennell played for the artists. The concert concluded with “Auld Lang Syne.”
