SUBVERSION CHARGES
CARPENTER FOUND GUILTY ON TWO JURY RECOMMENDS MERCY I Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The hearing of charges of subverj sion against Herbert Henry Swann, i aged 31, carpenter, were concluded in | the Supreme Court. The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was charged I with publishing a subversive sticker bearing the words "No more troops for overseas; N.Z. comes first,” with having a number of these stickers in his possession, and with having a pamphlet entitled "Forward" with a view to publishing the subversive statements it contained. The accused was found guilty on the first two counts and not guilty on the charge of having the pamphlet with a view to publishing the subersive statements it contained. . The jury strongly recommended leniency. He was remanded for sentence.
