GOOD PROGRESS MADE
HOME GUARD TRAINING
FURTHER ENLISTMENTS A recruiting meeting for the Home Guard, held at Rapanui on Thursday evening, was well attended. Mr. H. H. Enderby presided, and Mr. W. H. Cannan, president of the Wanganui R.S.A., and Mr. C. L. Lovegrove (Wanganui) also addressed the meeting. All eligible men were enrolled and a committee of six was appointed to further the interests of the Home Guard. Mr. Enderby was elected chairman and Messrs. E. Coates. L. D’Ath, E. Handley, J. Hocking, and C. G. Armstrong were elected members of the committee. The Ratana Maori company of the Home Guard is making good progress and a list of temporary appointments will be available early next week. The Home Guard is indebted to non-commissioned officers of the National Military' Reserve who take a keen Interest in the training of members. Several sub-areas report that training has begun, and the conference of Home Guard commanders from subareas and city companies, to be held to-morrow, should result in a uniform 1 training programme being arranged for the whole area. The conference opens at 11.30 a.m.
