SECOND INFANTRY BRIGADE
WANGANUI AS TRAINING DEPOT CAMPS AT RACECOURSE AND SPRIGGENS PARK Balloted men of the Second New Zealand Infantry Brigade Regiments, which include Wellington West Coast, Hawke's Bay, and Taranaki Battalions, are now concentrating at Spriggens Park and Wanganui Racecourse for the remainder of their three months’ training, begun last year. Wanganui has become the training depot of the brigade, and when the last of the men arrive to-day, a total of 714, including detachments from Wellington and Auckland of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, will be assembled in Wanganui. The first detachment to arrive yesterday was 196 men of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment from Auckland, who arrived at 8.58 a.m. At . 10.30 a.m., members of the Welling- ' ton West Coast Regiment from Wan- | ganui went into camp, followed at 110.45 by 50 from other parts of the ■ district, and 17 more at 3 p.m. The ; 188 Wellington “Scotties" arrived at ■ 4.30 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the last 20 ■ mcmoors of the Wellington West Regiment. mainly from the Kin : Country, entered camp. i At Spriggens Park 83 members of I the Taranaki Regiment arrived about I mirl-riay. and the Hawke's Bay detachment of 130 is expected to-day. Wellington West Coast men are on the Racecourse with Scottish detachments from Wellington and Auckland, but the Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki men will be on Spriggens Park. The Scottish Regiment men are under the command of Major J. L. McAlister, M.C.. who commanded A Company (Wellington) New Zealand Scottish Regiment when it was in camp on Spriggens Park last year. The commanding officer of the First Battalion. Taranaki Regiment, Lieut. - Colonel A. E. Gorton, is commandant of the depot.
