PROBLEM OF CROWN LANDS
MR. P. L. WICKHAM’S VIEW
The rehabilitation of deteriorated lands was an important question, and one in which he had been interested for a long time, said Mr. P. L. Wickham, Makirikiri, in an interview yesterday. Mr. Wickham, who is standing for the vacant seat on the Wellington Land Board, added that he had had considerable practical experience with this class of country. He had successfully farmed country of this nature for 20 years and, if elected to the vacancy on the Wellington Land Board, would endeavour to put Crown tenants on a sound financial basis. Much of it was at. present unoccupied, and Mr. Wickham added that he would like to see the right type of settler placed on such land, and on a basis that would enable him to make a success of it. “I am convinced that if this were done, the land in question could be farmed with success,” said Mr. Wickham.
