NOTE OF PROTEST
BRITAIN TO RUMANIA SATISFACTION SOUGHT LONDON, July 30. The British Note of protest to Rumania is now known to have pointed out that unless the Rumanian Government gives satisfaction on the points at issue a return to normal Anglo-Rumanian relations cannot be expected. The main points of which the British Government is complaining are the detention of British vessels on the Danube, the expulsion of British oil engineers, and interference with the Astra-Romana Oil Company. An Associated Press i eport from Bucharest to-day states that the Rumanian Government has decided to raise by more than half the tax on oil companies, many of which are foreign-owned. In addition, the export tax on all petroleum products will be raised from 14 per cent, to 20 per cent., and the increase will be payable by the exporting companies, wno will not be allowed to raise their prices to cover it.
