OPERA HOUSE HEATING
IMPROYEMENI'S HAVE BEEN MADE It was reported to the Wanganui City Council last nignt that improvements had been made to the Opera House to make it warmer in the winter months. Appreciation of what had been done was expressed by the Wanganui manager lor Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., Mr. J. F. Broad. At an estimated cost of £lO, the council put in hand the construction of a canopy above the stage. A sub-committee reported having considered the question of charges for heating the Opera House incurred by Amalgamated Theatres. On reviewing the position, the sub-committee decided that, because the rates charged are on the lowest scale and probably below those prevailing elsewhere for this class of consumption, a reduction, as requested, cannot be granted. Certain improvements to the heating plant, however, had been made ana others are contemplated. The matter will be further investigated at a later date in the light of results obtained.
