TEA NOT PROHIBITED
IMPORT RESTRICTIONS MIN IS TER S ST ATE MEN T [ Per Press Association, j WELLINGTON, April 12. Referring to import licensing provisions for the July-December period, the Minister of Customs, Hon. W. Nash, said there appeared to be some misapprehension regarding tea. He understood that a statement appeared in a North Auckland newspaper to the effect that tea was a prohibited import, whereas the only restriction announced with fourth period licences concerned an odd classification of tea specified as tea. Mr. Nash said there had never been any reduction in the importation of tea. Indeed, every facility had been given by the Customs Department for the import of tea to the full quantity admitted before import selection procedure. Stocks of tea in New Zealand were ample for consumers’ requirements and further adequate supplies were also fully assured.
