The work at Mr. Hill’s house in Bridge Street is now completed and is satisfactory. Work has been commenced on two more houses, and the contractor has started on the Rest Rooms. I interviewed a property owner regarding sanitary arrangements in Bridge Street, and these will not be used. The only case of infectious disease notified during the quarter was a case of scarlet fever* and as that was notified on March 11, and there have been no further cases, I think that it will be the only one. This week’s first aid class was well attended, and the application of splints was explained by Mrs. Hatch, superintendent, and by members of the Marton branch of St. John Ambulance. Dr. Hardwick-Smith will conduct the class on Monday next. Neighbours and friends tendered a farewell evening to Mr. Alf Emerson at Brandon Hall this week, a pleasant time being spent at cards. Mr. Allen, owner of the farm, and Mr, C. Thorby, spoke in the highest terms of Mr. Emerson, and expressed regret at his departure. Mr. Emerson, who leaves shortly for a similar position near Wanganui, was the recipient of a leather suit-case, and suitably responded. Omitted from the published list of local contributions to the Fighting Services’ Fund was: Mrs. G. Dunford and family, £5. The writing on several of the cards handed in was hardly decipherable, and the committee summarising the lists unfortunately credited tills donation to another person.
