POPULAR SOLDIER-ATHLETE WEDS
BOOT—KESSELL The marriage took place in Wellington on Saturday morning of Lorna, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Kessell. Wellington, and Vernon Patrick, son of Mrs. Boot, Auckland, and the late Mr. V. P. Boot. Ashburton. The service, held in St. Peter’s Church, was conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon Bullock. The bridegroom, who is an officercadet in the Army Training School at Trentham, is known throughout the Empire as an athlete of renown, his record-breaking performance in the half-mile event at the last Empire Games putting him in world champion class. The bride wore a smart suit of light navy boucle wool and veiled navy hat with flat crown, and carried a small bouquet of red roses. A Marina green frock and swathed turban was worn by the bridesmaid. Miss Dawn Bass, her flowers being in cyclamen and mauve shades. The bridegroom’s half-brother, Mr. Jock England, of Christchurch, was best man. Mr. and Mis. V. P. Boot will live in Wellington pending the former’s departure overseas with the Third Echelon.
