TURANGAARERE ANNUAL MEETING The Turangaarere Women’s Institute held its meeting on Mai ch 15. Mrs. Bartell presided ovei a very gooa attendance. The Ode to Friendship was followed by the annual i eport, which was read by Mrs. Redman, and adopted. usual business was discussed the officers ana lor the coming year were elected as follows:—President, Mrs. Bartell; secretary, Mrs. Volts; vice-president, Mrs. Raukawa; committee, Mesdames Pohe, Coleman, Millan, Murdoch, Canton ana Tall. Mrs. Volts agreed to be reporting delegate for the annual meeting. Mrs. Redman, the former secretary, was presented with a brass bowl by Mrs. Bartell, on behalf of the members of the W.I. Mrs. Bartell expressed regret at losing such a good member. Mrs. Redman had worked ft aid to bring the institute up to its present standard. Mrs. Redman suitably responded. The trading table did very good business. The competition results were as follows:—Patch, Mrs. Coleman 1, Miss D. Bartlett 2; floral emblem, Mrs. Pohe; premier flower, Mrs. Tall. A dainty afternoon <ea was served by the hostesses, after which the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. The competitions for next meeting are for a child's apron made from a flour bag, and a vegetable posy. ANNUAL MEETING At the annual meeting of the Fordell Women’s Institute held recently, Mrs. S. E. Lloyd presided and extended a welcome to members. The meeting opened with the “Ode to Friendship,” the motto being read by Mrs. G. Taylor. The annual report, which was most interesting and comprehensive, was prepared by Miss M. Mowat, former secretary, who is now in Christchurch, and was read by Miss J. Bailey, assist-ant-secretary. The president, in moving the adoption of the report, expressed her thanks to all members for their co-operation during the year and specially thanked the committee for their assistance. Miss Hall, treasurer, presented the annual balance-sheet, which disclosed a satisfactory financial position. Mrs. Lee paid a tribute, on behalf of members, to the retiring president, Mrs. S. E. Lloyd, and presented her with a floral posy in token of their appreciation. Appreciation of the services of the former secretary. Miss Mowat, was expressed by Mrs. Bruce, who asked Mrs. Mowat to convey the members’ good wishes to her. Mrs. Bruce also thanked the assistant-secretary, Miss Bailey. To other members for their services during the year, thanks were expressed as follow: By Mrs. R. A. Ed- | wards to Miss J. Christie, pianiste, and Mr. Gemmill, auditor; by Mrs. Mowat to Miss Hall, treasurer; by Miss J. Christie to Mrs. Bousfield, press correspondent; and by Mrs. Lee to Mrs. Bruce for the ‘Golden Thread’ and to other members who assisted. The retiring president, Mrs. Lloyd, declined further nomination for this office. During the election of officers, the chair was taken by Mrs. Mowat. A ballot was not necessary, and the following officers were elected:— President. Mrs. K. L. Bruce; vicepresidents, Mesdames S. E. Lloyd, A. Lee, and A. Duncan; secretary, Mrs. R. A. Edwards; treasurer, Miss Hall; committee, Mesdames Power, Carroll Bousfield, R. Campbell and Misses J. Christie, O. Barnes, and G. Henderson. Mrs. Annand was judge. • In response to the appeal for gifl ; parcels for soldiers, Fordell Institute ! has made up and handed in five parcels, while one dozen balaclavas foi soldiers have also been knitted by members and sent in. MEETING AT PIPIRIKI ■ Members of the Pipiriki Women's met on Wednesday last, in I the hall, for their first annual meeting, when the election of officers resulted as follows: President, Miss IPaora (re-elected); secretary, Mrs. iYoung; treasurer, Mrs. Anderson (reflected). Mrs. Templeton, the retiring secretary, was heartily thanked for the capable way she had carriea lout the secretarial duties during the I past year. j Many amusing answers were given j to the roll call, “What I like and disi like in my domestic duties.” The comI petition, “a sketch,” was won by Mrs. Young, with Miss Paora second.
