Miss E. M. Mason (Tauranga) is in Ireland (wrote a London correspondent on February 16). It may be information for New Zealand readers to know that in County Tipperary, like many parts of the Dominion, there is a very high incidence of endemic goitre. The Irish medical authorities are very anxious to get this disease under control. Miss Mason'feels very highly honoured at being invited to co-operate in this matter, and for the next 12 months she will be working under the auspices of the Irish Medical Research Council and in collaboration with the County Medical Officer of Health. Their main line of research will be to investigate undeIrish conditions various forms of goitre prophylaxis, with the object of finding the most efficacious method of treatment. They also hope to do some research on the conditions, topological, dietetic, etc., which accompany the occurrence of goitre, in the hope of adding a little more information on the actual cause. Miss Mason feels that some sort of anti-goltre propaganda would do a great deal of good in New Zealand, and she hopes in due course to have information chat will be valuable in the Dominion.
