TRAINEES ENTERTAIN Ti TORS PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES A very pleasant function took place in the Red Cross Society room, above McKenzie’s, on Saturday afternoon, when the Red Cross trainees enter- ( tained their tutors and examiners at j afternoon tea. The guests of honour were Mrs. D. T. Allen (wife of the, president), Mesdames J. C. Wickham, I J. A. McFarland, Lawrence, Lattlcy, Misses Hunter, West wood, Wilcox, Williams, C. War!more and Gill. The tables were decorated with vases of sweet peas, stock, mauve azaleas and lily of the valley, while on the olheial table was a doll dressed as a Red Cross nurse, and at each place a floral spray lor Lite visitors. Mrs. McFarlane, on behalf of the trainees, extended a welcome to the guests of honour. Apologies were re- 1 ceived from Mrs. VV. J. Rogers, Mrs. Wilcox and Miss Gasson. a delicious afternoon tea was served, after which a short programme was enjoyed. Maori action choruses in character were given by Mesdames Whakarua, P. Meli Kingi, R. Gilbert, Misses \V. Hunia, D. Woon and M. McQuarrie, 'with accompaniments played oy Mr. ;G. Hipango. Mrs. Sievewright contributed two vocal solos, playing her . own accompaniments, and Miss M. 'Morris gave two elocutionary items. A i competition, naming advertisements ! cut from a newspaper, was won by I Mrs. Sievewright. Miss Hunter, on behalf of the examiners, thanked the trainees for the very pleasant afternoon and called on I Mrs. Allen to present the certificates. Mrs. Alien spoke briefly and congratulated those who had won their certifi■cates. Mrs. Wickham also thanked the I trainees for the pleasant afternoon land took the oppot (unity to congratui late the winnei.s and said all w ere 'proud of them. She paid a tribute to the tutors who had trained them. At |the conclusion of the afternoon, the ■trainees sang “For They Are Jolly i [Good Fellows" and called for three' [cheers for the guests of honour, also for Mrs. McFarland. Certificates w ere presented to the following, some of. ■whom qualified in both subjects and 'many of whom passed with honours: — 'Mrs. Garden, Misses Gladys Anderson, i Henderson, Hunia, E. McKenzie, S. •Meuli, 11. Norfolk, Y. Palmer Jones; |Mesdames A. B, Currin. Meti Kingi, Sievewright, McFarland. H. L. Wililiams. Whakarua. R. Gilbert. Burrell, ; Barnhill, Misses E. and I. Brown, B. [Clements. Joblin. J. Morris, Merely, J. I Secord. R. Christenson, A. Welsh, M. McKillop. N. Morris, A. James, Little, I |L. McPhail, J. Trevithick. M. McKilUop, C. Brown and Watson. Specially [mentioned were Mrs. Garden (for oral 1 exercises and highest, average), Miss I Hunia (highest for practical), and Miss Yvonne Palmer Jones (highest for written paper). After the presentation all went 1 along to the photographers to have a group photograph taken.
