TEMPERANCE WORK

ARAMOHO BRANCH. The president presided al th': meeting of Ihe Aramoho branch of Ihe W.C.T.U.. held in St. David's Church on October 2S. Devotions were conducted by Mrs. Wellard, and Mrs. Good gave the temperance fact as follows:—Mortality rale in pneumonia. total abstainers 13 per cent., moderate drinkers. 23 per cent.; intemperate drinkers. 52 per cent (late Sir William Osler). It was reported that the social afternoon held recently was very successful. There was a good attendance, an enjoyable programme and the financial results very satisfactory. A discussion took place re wet canteen and drinking in dance halls and the secretary' was instructed to write to the Prime Minister expressing appreciation at the efforts being made to combat the evil. An invitation was received from St. Laurence's Mothers’ Union for two members to attend. A special meeting of the executive was arranged to allocate funds and arrange business for the annual meeting next month.
