COMMITTEE FORMED IN WANGANUI ORGANISED SELECTION OF IMMIGRANTS A branch of the New Zealand Refugees’ Emergency organisation, which is being set up throughout the Dominion, has been formed in Wanganui. The seriousness of the situation in Europe and the persecution of racial and political groups, has 1-d to an urgen refuge? prcbLm. There hss grown up in New Zealand a large public opinion that a better organised system of select.ng immigrants shouki be established, \vith this end in view, New Zealand Refugees' Emergency Committees are being set up throughout the country with headquarters m Wellington. The aims of lhe society are to plac before the public the humanitarian, social and cc_/n ,mic advantages of the abjorpticn of seLct-d .mm grants, and to aid in their selection and transport. Some weeks ago, Mr. Phillip Hollaway, who has just been appointed general organ! e. . addressed a very representative me ting of c.t zen> a. the Friends’ School, Wanganui, and a;; a result a provisional c mm.ttec has been set up. This committee has asked Mr. Hoißway to address a publicmeeting early in August. Mr. Holloway, who is an eloquent speaker, has had first-hand experience in reiugee work both in England and Europe, and has a thorougn kn wvlcdge of la_ difliculties and urgency of tne work. After the public meeting it is the intention of the provisional committee to elect permanent officers anu committee m n in Wanganui, in the meantime those who have consented to act. are Mr.;.. S. A. Gibbons (chairman), Miss Vida Lechbr-idge (secretary), Messrs. Douglas Earle, G. P. Hawkins, H. C. Veitch, J. WalkCT, Archdeacon J. R. Young, Revs. A. Brash, Chambers, and Nicholson; Misses C.
