WANGANUI RAILWAYS LONG PERIOD OF SERVICE Thirty-two years' service in the Railway D-pa,tment. has bren given by Mr. W. J. Barrett, of Wellington, lhe newly-appointed wharfinger at Wanganui, who took up his duu.'s ye. ■ terday. Joining the railway service in 19.17 as a cadet at Winton. Mr. Barrel occupied various positions in Hit South Island before bring trans! nc, to Auckland in 1917. His next transf-n was to Ohakune in 1922. Three year, later he was appointed siationmastc' at Carterton. He served for seven years at Carterton, then a furthei three years in the same capacity a Fctone, before being moved to Palm erslon North as senior goods fieri. Transferred this year t > Wellington Mr. Barrett was senior'booking clers at that station prior to taking up his present appointment. Mr. Barrett succeeds Mr. W. J Feeney, who retired last month nftei 40 years’ service.
