MR. J AI RK K GILLIGAN The late Mr. Patrick Stephen Gillgan, of Patea. who died on Sunday ai the age of 90, was a native of Count.. I Clare, Ireland, and came lo New Zeai land in 1867, to Hawke’s Bay, wlick lhe remained for some time as a cadet ion tiio late Colonel station. Sixty year.s ago he came ty Patea and ishortly after his arrival purchased th • farm on which he resided up till hn death. I When younger, Mr. Gilligan took an I active part in public life, being » (member of the old Patea School Comi mittee and was a founder of the iKakaramea Dairy Company, of which he was a director and chairman. He I was a president of the Patea Racing Club, and one of the founders of th* Patea Golf Club, giving the use of hi. land free to the latter for some yeai and taking an active part in the gam for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife, fou. daughters and five sons.
