YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS

FIELD DAY AT BULLS Own Correspondent >. BULLS, July 17. I The efforts of members of the Bulb , District Young Farmers’ Club met ' with unqualified success when a field j day was held on Thursday last on the : property of Mr. C. E. Vile, “Pukenui,” I Bulls, though unpleasant weather no i doubt affected the attendance. AH i events went off smoothly, and were well contested, which proved the ’ efficiency of the stewards. Cold weather made the sawing contest a popular event, and the performance of the winners, Messrs. Smith Bro’s., of Marton, was a very good one. An old-timers’ contest re- , suited in a win for Messrs. Torrey j Bros., who later gave an exhibition, getting through their log in 16secs. 1 The main events of the day were the dog trials, the response being very good, and although the standard of work was not very high, competitors appreciated the opportunity of giving their dogs a run. During the afternoon Mr. C. B. Anderson (in the unavoidable absence of the club chairman. Mr. S. G. Avery, who sent an apology) took the opportunity of welcoming the visitors, amongst those who came from a distance being Mr. C. J. Hamblyn, Fields Supervisor of the Department, of Agriculture; and Mr. A. R. Dingwall, Wanganui District Y.F.C. secretary. Simpson, for carriage of stock: and Mr. Bob Cole, for generally assisting. Fie also thanked members of the local branch of the Farmers’ Union for their assistance, which had lightened the work considerably. In conclusion, Mr. Anderson said that, the day would be a great boost to the club and the organisation, and he called upon the boys to show their which they did in no uncertain term*. Mr. C. E. Vile, in reply, said that it gave him the greatest pleasure to do anything possible for the young farmers, and he wished them well in their future activities. Other judges and demonstrators also offered to give their service on future occasions. Captain B.
