WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

TURANGAARERE MEETING. The first meeting of the institute new year was held on April 21 and was well attended. Mrs. Bartell presided and the meeting was opened with the singing of the “Ode to Friendship and Aspirations.” Business was discussed and reports adopted and carried. A report of the garden party held on the first of the month proved that it had been a great success financially. Members elected to special duties for the coming year were Mrs. R. Sinclair, in charge of competitions: Mrs. Anderton, trading table; Mrs. Canton, librarian; Miss Bartell, sick fund, and | Mrs. W. R. Pohe, reporter. I Hostesses to help nt federation ! meeting were called for and there I was a ready response from members. All members were asked to take samples of work they wish to enter for the Centennial Exhibition. Miss Kane will judge the work at, federation meeting. Results of the competitions were:— Premier flower, Mrs. Canton; posy, Miss D. Bartell 1, Mrs. Pohe 2; kettleholder, Mrs. Coleman 1 and 2. Competitions for next month will be best decorations for winter flowers and 'satin cushion. Mrs. Bartell supplied I the motto. Afternoon tea was served Iby the hostesses and enjoyed by all. i Hostesses for next meeting, Mesdames I Anderton, Chadwick and Canton. The ' meeting closed with the singing o{ the National Anthem.
