TO-DAY AND TO-MORROW’S ACTIVITIES

MEETINGS AND DEMONSTRATIONS The annual conference of the United Fire Brigades’ Association of New Zealand will be held to-day in St. Paul’s Hall, beginning at 9 o’clock. At 10 o’clock the Mayor of Wanganui will extend a civic welcome to the officers and delegates. The Undersecretary of Internal Affairs (Mr. J. W. Heenan) will attend the conference and a break in the order of proceedings will be made to suit his convenience. The conference will occupy the whole of to-day, and will continue to-morrow. Womenfolk visiting Wanganui for the conference will be taken for a motor drive to-morrow afternoon, a bus leaving the City Council offices, in St. Hill Street, at 2.30 p.m. Afternoon tea will be had at Virginia Lake. At night the highlight of the week, a big procession through Victoria Avenue and a combined display by firemen, athletes and Pipe Band, on Cook’s Gardens, is expected to arouse a great deal of public interest. New lighting from four high steel towers will be featured on Cook’s Gardens, which are now being remodelled so as to make the reserve one of the best, in the Dominion. Tesla Studios have been appointed official photographer to Fire Brigade Conference and Demonstrations*
