SLUMP PRICES FOR SHEEP
SOUND EWES AT 7/- AT TEKAPO [ Per Press Association.] FAIRLIE, March 5. Prices on a par with slump values were realised at the Tekapo sale yesterday, the drop being attributed to the shortage of feed and lack of confidence. The yarding, which was in the vicinity of 2000, was one-third less than last year, the reduction being due to sellers anticipating the markets, also smaller drafts owing to the severe winter. Top price of 18s 6d was realised for lambs, but the trend of the market was indicated by the fact that only good twotooth ewes touched 12s, sound ewes 7s, and failing down to 6d. Passings were numerous, many runholders preferring to take a chance with the winter rather than meet the market. Nearly all the yarding comprised Merinos a,nd halfbreds, representing drafts from the stations.
