STORTFORD LODGE FINAL EWE FAIR.
HASTINGS, March 3. At the final ewe fair held at Stortford Lodge to-day 15,000 ewes were offered to a fairly quiet bench of buyers. The yarding lacked quality on the whole, many of the drafts being in store condition only. Whenever offerings showing quality came forward values were firm on those ruling at previous fairs. A noticeable feature of the sale was the lack of quality in the two-tooths offered, the best of which were inferior to many seen at fairs earlier in the season, though prices up to 26s lOd were paid. Generally, two- tooth values ranged from 17s 6d to 21s. Five and sixyear ewes were mostly lacking quality and though sound-mouthed lines sold up to 15s 8d and 12s respectively, prices generally were well below those figures. Quotations are:—
One hundred and twenty-five fiveyear ewes in god store condition, 10s 3d; 89 five-year medium, fairly framed, 10s; 126 well-framed ditto, in medium store condition, 13s 9d; four-tooths in medium store condition realised 17 s to 17s 9d; two-tooths, fairly grown and in god fresh condition, sold to 26s lOd; fairly well grown, carrying good slipe, 25s to 25s 3d; small but fresh conditioned, 20s 8d; small, in hard store condition, 17s; and medium grown, hardy, 16s.
